I would like to start a discussion about constructive suggestions for the station.  I want to see this this station grow and become stronger.  The area I would like to start with is communication between the producers.  I believe we can offer each other a lot of support and provide much in the way of information.  The more we share with each other the better the station will become!

I want to start by saying that this thread is one example of how we can achieve this.  Just posting and answering each other's questions will go a long way!

Yes, this board is all about better communications --- producers, staff, board, and our audience. That's why it was created.

Everyone who is working on a show is invited to the t-party to talk about their work, themselves  and put out the word about their  current or upcoming show.

I agree with Kieron--the most immediate effect Producers can have on URTV is to communicate more with each other, collaborate on shows and discuss the myriad ways we can represent the best happenings in Asheville.

Perhaps some sort of producer-led production meeting could take place once a month where people could discuss what's coming up in Buncombe County and how we can capture the event for URTV.  A collective production crew might take some stress off all those doing the "One-Man Show" kind of thing and foster more sharing/learning/teaching.

Is Team URTV in the near future?

hey, I like that Team URTV concept... that way we could do some REAL productions!  Smiley

as to your profile pic, I'm with you on Hulk Hogan (is that Andre the Giant he's with?) ... back in the 80s, Hulk Hogan signed on to play in a movie I had written (about resurrected Vikings playing professional football). Alas, the movie did not get made (even though I got paid).

The Hulkster is still one powerful dude, just like URTV and and should be.

I like the sound of that.  It is just the type of thing I am talking about.  Lets get together and make plans.  We have an awesome outlet here.  URTV is a television station that anyone can produce shows for.  We should make the best use we can of this resource.

I will go as far at to say that we as producers should start our own fund raising.  We should make it an ongoing concern.  I can see us helping the station as well as each other with any proceeds we raise.  We should take the bull my the horns and make this station work.

A good idea, Kieron, and definitely worthy of further discussion!

I must say,I like the way people talk on this page...  Working together is more fun,and we get more done...

YES,YES,YES,you must all come to my tea party, and talk about your tv show... It is a good time to go on and on,about what we are doing at URTV... that is a large part of why i do the show...
maybe some insight into why you do your show, what made you do that..  Or just have some tea...
I like my show to be for all members of URTV,but if you start to use my show for your own soap box (too much) I will make you get your own show...
I hope it works like that..
Then we have a new show...

well put, Dr. John... and your tea is liquid nirvana!

folks, check the schedule at http://urtv.org/schedule.html ... John's "Mad Scientist Tea Party" is on Thursdays and Fridays. Watch it a couple of times, then just show up and he'll invite you to sit in. I've done it several times, it's a hoot... and, yes, he really DOES serve tea.

One of the main reasons I took the various classes at URTV was to make myself available to members who need extra people and are using URTV equipment.  That way, I can assist them with whatever they need ,like cameras, studio, lighting etc.

I have learned something new in each class, and refreshed my skills in many areas.  I would highly recommend the classes to everybody that wants to participate in URTV.  It also gives you the opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and contacts, and gives you a look at the skill levels of possible assistants and partners in future productions.

I would like to see an area where members can list their names and contact info, along with certification classes they have and what areas they feel they could contribute to help another production.

For instance:

Jeff Howard
email:l  Jeff@AlphaArts.org
URTV certifications:  Field Gear, Studio A, Editing
Additional Info: Own additional Gear, Sony Cameras, Tripods, Lighting Gear, Editing on PC using Sony Vegas Pro 8, Sony Sound Forge for audio, Digital Juice Products, Serious Magic Chroma editing software etc. Shooting, editing, burning, duplication, grip and lighting, film work.  Thousands of photos and stock video clips available for inclusion into your video project (Royalty free).  Thousands of stock royalty free sound effects, music tracks etc.

One site I have seen, (DVCREATORS.net)  allows all members to post this type of info and lets them rank themselves in each category like PRO, GOOD, WILLING TO LEARN.  Then other members can look up the info and select from the list, members that can operate a studio camera for example, then maybe add a second camera person that checked "willing to learn" and give them some experience too.

This would provide all members instant access to what they need for a project, to put together a production team, and feel comfortable about the other team members who are handling URTV equipment (and self owned equipment).  Need an editor for PC clips?  Need some stock video footage to fix a bad shot or add to a production?  Need someone that can dump a tape on to a hard drive?  Need a camera operator for a shoot in three hours?   need some extra lights?

Go to online list, pick out what you need and make a few calls and bam!  you've got what you need.

What does everyone think?  Good IDEAL ?   I'm sure Johnathan could make a page like that happen!

Thanks for listening.

By the way, I had a local director call me the other day wanting various things.  With a list like this, I could have pulled it up and recommended some people, etc.  Nobody knows you are there and available unless you tell them.

I think Jeff has made a very good suggestion.  A subject line where we can post what credentials and equipment we have. I'm sure something can be done in the magical hands and software Ralph has. JMHO

Great idea Jeff.  This board is becoming very constructive very fast.

And do check out the Tea Party!  It really is a great portal to get new people hooked on doing access TV themselves.  Anyway, it won me over to the charm of public access.

Also, check out the PSA Dude - every day at noon and random other times (it's only 5 minutes so doesn't show up on the schedule) and at youtube.com/thepsadude and myspace.com/thepsadude (friend the Dude!).  Send us your announcements at psadude@urtv.org!

peace
