Hey Ralph,

Marcia has multiple pcs and wants to connect them to take advantage of both processors, RAM, etc.   Is this easy to do?  What does it require?

You need software. It is moderately easy - for example - to put together render farms for Adobe After Effect or animation programs (I have 10 computers that render my Lightwave animations).

Sounds like what Marcia wants is called clustering, which does what you describe. This requires more in the way of software and hardware.

In the PC world, Windows now has clustering software for High Performance Computing (HPC). You can read more about it here:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/ccs/default.aspx

Linux has even easier clustering using open source programs but it requires some effort to set up. (one of my many future projects is to cluster several Ubuntu servers).

Fascinating subject.
